Lean Manufacturing

Lean manufacturing is a systematic, cutting-edge approach to identifying and eliminating waste (non-value-added activities) throughout all our business activities.

Hunting PLC has one company (National Coupling) who has been on a LEAN Journey for over five years. Utilizing the lessons learned in National's Journey, Hunting has begun incorporating those same principles in four of its U.S. Manufacturing locations and two locations in the UK.

The effects can be seen immediately in:

• Improved space utilization by improved organization and storage
• Reduction of Work In Process (WIP) through better scheduling
• Increased production throughput by better utilization of existing assets
• Improvement in On-time shipping performance
• Increased employee morale with facility and tooling upgrades
• Improved safety by the elimination of clutter

Lean manufacturing uses strategic concepts and a toolbox of innovative techniques with the goal of eliminat­ing waste and creating maximum value for our customers. Becoming lean involves the entire company, and it doesn't happen overnight. It is a commitment to long term improvements and never being satisfied with just being good at what you do. At Hunting we are examining all phases of our business from customer order to delivery. We are working diligently to identify waste and opportunities to improve in every measure for our customers.

Our process has been to evaluate, educate, identify and implement opportunities. We have redistributed assets within our facilities to improve utilization, capacity and capability.

Training is on-going in the principles of LEAN and Six-Sigma measurement processes. We are utilizing the experience and knowledge of our employees to seek ideas of where we can improve and what has been holding us back. As we implement changes in our business operations we are measuring the results.
